Portugal: Local Color, Part Two

by Adverb

Had a great day. Proverb, a friend of mine visiting from the States, and two of our friends from Porto made a walking/taxi tour of Porto today. Below are a few of the photos.

This is a shot of the Douro River that separates Porto (on the left) from a city called Gaia (on the right). Most of the Port wineries are located on the Gaia side of the river. The point at which this photo was taken shows the river not far from where it flows into the Atlantic Ocean.

An image of a portion of Gaia taken from the Porto side of the river in a district called Ribeira.

Porto is a city of steep hills. Great for scenic views. Tough for walking.

As with many places in Europe, Porto is a city of contrast between old and new. Notice the laundry and the satellite dish.
